Are your shoes made for walking? Choose quality walking shoes and don’t let them spoil the pleasure of traveling. Here is some advice to help you with the selection of footwear, depending on how you’re planning to spend your time in nature during these beautiful summer days.
Find a good shop with sporting goods because the sellers there will show you what is the best type of footwear designed for long walks and your individual needs.
If your feet sweat, buy a number larger shoes of those you might otherwise have purchased. Or, if possible, try them out and buy them only after a few hours of walking. When buying shoes made for long walks always try them with the socks you intend to wear on your journey. And keep in mind for what kind of walks you’re buying the shoes, is it for a city walk, hiking, climbing, backpacking…
When you tie a shoe, make sure there is space between the upper edge and ankle. Even the slightest friction can cause an irritation, injury and pain. Pads placed within shoes provide comfort and are perfect for walking, but give feet poor support. Fashion accessories, special stitching on the upper part of the shoe, increase the possibility of blisters in those places. Therefore the fewer seams and decorations they have the better. Weight of the footwear is very important if you intend to walk in it all day. With lightweight shoes your feet will be less fatigued. Sports shoes designed for long walks should not have a heel which is higher than two or three centimeters. The smaller the difference is in height, between the heel and the toes, the greater is stability of the shoe.
Look for a shoe that covers the foot, and which is at the same time flexible, lightweight and soft. If your feet are wider or narrower than the “standard” make sure you choose your shoes carefully. Narrow shoe will cause you injuries while if it’s too wide your foot will glide in it and you will surely regret those purchases.
Finally: Enjoying the trip or vacation depends lot on the comfort of the shoes you’ll be wearing and walking around in for hours, so take plenty of time to choose and buy the best shoes for your feet. Your feet definitely deserve it.
